Director of Development

The position of Director of Development is responsible for helping develop and implement the agency’s annual plan for the viable financial support of the agency; from government sources, foundations, corporations and private donors. Responsibilities include direct fund-raising efforts including donor relations, research, grant writing, mailing list management, donor history data collection and advocacy. This position is also responsible for assisting in the coordination and implementation of all marketing/public relations opportunities for ACCESS. These include agency newsletters, e-newsletters, website updates, press releases, special events, and advocacy in the community. Being part of the senior staff requires being on call for 1 week per month average for the shelter. This is a full-time salary exempt position which requires some travel and occasional weekend/holiday and after-hours availability.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor's degree in communications, business, marketing or related field. Alternatively, a minimum of 5 years successful experience in fund development including donor relations and grant writing or marketing, special event management and/or PR. Excellent writing skills. Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and database applications. Experience with graphic design programs. Ability to work well both as a team member and individually. Demonstrated flexibility, motivation, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude. Excellent communication skills, outgoing “people person,” dynamic self-starter, highly organized. Experienced in managing, motivating and coordinating people. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Valid Ohio driver’s license and reliable personal transportation.
Preferred: Familiarity with nonprofit social service agency. Understanding of issues affecting individuals experiencing homelessness. Demonstrated public speaking skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Development:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive fund-raising plan utilizing foundations, corporations, individuals and other sources for yearly operating budget, major gifts and annual appeal and fundraising events.
• Write all grants and funding requests to all sources, public and private, within designated deadlines.
• Identify and cultivate new sources of revenue (government, private, corporate, and individual).
• Maintain relationships with current donors and foundations.
• Work with Executive Director to coordinate regular communication with donors through mail, phone calls and meetings for donor development.
• Coordinate and complete reports required by funding sources and submit for approval to the Executive Director.
• Maintain and update documentation regarding grants.
• Responsible for maintaining the Bloomerang data system.
• Coordinate recognition and written acknowledgement for gifts of cash, in-kind or other, on a timely basis.
• Assist with planning of the annual fundraisers and various fundraising campaigns.
• Responsible for developing materials related to sponsorship and for acquiring sponsorship for events.
• Plans and executes donor recognition events and opportunities in consultation with Executive Director.
• Prepare monthly development reports for the Board; assist Executive Director with revenue goals during budget preparation.
• Serve as staff liaison to the Development Committee.
• Follow all agency policies and procedures.
• Attend senior management team meetings.
• Attend community functions and represent ACCESS at all times, responsibly and appropriately.
• Carry out all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
• Responsible for adhering to all policy and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook and other departmental procedure manuals.

Marketing/Public Relations:
• Create a comprehensive marketing/PR plan for the agency.
• Responsible for brand oversight and ensuring the brand is kept consistent throughout all materials, publications, letterhead, website, etc.
• Maintain updated agency information necessary for completion of all reports and public relation materials.
• Coordinate, implement and participate in speaking engagements to groups, churches and community organizations as requested by Executive Director.
• Oversee publication of the donor newsletter, staff newsletter, and other published materials.
• Work with development team to photograph and maintain photo files of agency activities, residents, etc. for use in presentations and communications.
• Work with Executive Director to identify Marketing/PR opportunities for ACCESS.
• Serve as liaison to area groups, donors, corporate sponsors, support social service agencies, etc. as required.
• Responsible for oversight of the development, processing and delivery of printed newsletters, press releases, annual fundraising campaign, e-newsletters, press kits, general agency marketing materials and website.
• Responsible for oversight of social media.
• Manage the mailing lists.
Management:
• Supervision of the Communications Coordinator.
• Supervision of the Volunteer and Donations Coordinator
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Director of Engagement reports to the Executive Director.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Job Type: Full-time, Exempt
Compensation: $60-65,000/year salary with additional bonus incentives
