Leadership Akron & United Way of Summit County Announces Third Class of Diversity On Board

Tuesday, August 14, 2018

Leadership Akron and United Way of Summit County have selected a group of 17 leaders for Class 3 of the Diversity On Board Program. The class includes participants from Greater Akron’s business, education, government, nonprofit and religious sectors. In 2014, United Way invited Leadership Akron to partner in reimagining its Project Blueprint program, aimed at promoting minority representation on nonprofit boards throughout the community. Using this framework, Leadership Akron and United Way developed Diversity On Board as the successor to Project Blueprint, with the mission of advancing diverse representation through leadership development, education, and board-matching services.

Over the course of the year, Diversity On Board participants will develop a well-rounded perspective on the Akron community, setting the stage for future board leadership opportunities. Beginning the year with an Opening Retreat, they will spend a full day each month focusing on different aspects of nonprofit board leadership to ensure participants are prepared, motivated and connected to serve on nonprofit boards. Participants will also meet with coaching groups and learn alongside active nonprofit board members who will provide hands-on experience and invite them to community-wide events. Upon graduation, the class will be poised with new knowledge, connections, and commitments to empower their service to the Greater Akron community.
